Out with my Rollei 35 S again, but with a slow film this time.

After the encouraging results with my first roll of film in my recently acquired Rollei 35 S, I went out again with this fun and fully manual camera. The last time, I experimented with pushing the Ilford HP5 plus 400 to 1600 and compensated for the use of a yellow filter. This time, I tried another roll of film: the very slow Ilford Pan F 50. I heard very good things about that film, but were aware of the excellent light conditions required to shoot with this film. On a very sunny day, I went out to start shooting. However, I was not able to finish the roll in one afternoon and it took me a couple of waiting through rainy days (and busy office days) to shoot the remaining ten or so pictures.

As for my first time out with the Rollei, I had a great time as the camera is really really fun and even if the Pan F 50 slowed me down even more than the HP5 plus 400, I take the time on the streets with a film camera as a highly welcomed change from my shootings with the digital MFT camera. After handing in the completed roll to a lab, I had to wait ten long days to get it back. I went to the photo lab yesterday afternoon and…. Yes, there were images! Excellent news, although there were several unsurprisingly under-exposed. And as I also experimented with some backlight expositions, some where also over-exposed as I chose a bad position on some of them. I am still in full introspection to progress and get further down the road of the discovery of street photography on film, but am really happy with a couple of the photos I took. Below are some examples.

By the way, after completing the Pan F 50 roll one day, I tested the HP5 plus 400 in a newly acquired rangefinder camera – a Yashica Electro 35 GS – but more on that later.
